Some of Ontario’s finest craft beers are made in this beer region. Discover the personal touch in making traditional, hand-crafted beers on a tour of one of these fine craft breweries with a brewmaster or other ‘beer artisan’ and visits to two others. Sample all natural ingredient and exotic beers and enjoy a wholesome lunch at one of the oldest and most popular pubs in the region.
First stop is Innocente Brewery in Waterloo for a tour and samples, often with the brewery owner himself. Sample excellent ales such as Pils-Sinner, Bystander and Fling, or a red wine barrel aged Stout or Charcoal Porter.
When founder Philip Gosling opened Wellington Brewery in 1985, his concept was to produce English-style real ales for the Ontario market. These cask conditioned ales are naturally carbonated, served at cellar temperature, and drawn by hand pump. F&M Brewery, a small boutique brewery in Guelph, won four awards at this year’s 2014 Ontario Brewing Awards. Their Stone Hammer Maple Red Ale made with maple syrup won a Gold Medal. Tour this brewery and sample some of their award winning brews.
Block Three Brewing Company is a new micro brewery owned by four friends in the quaint village of St. Jacob’s, a village steeped in history where horse and buggies are a common sight. Block Three beers are free of preservatives and include locally sourced ingredients. Sample some of their beers that may include King Street Saison and Sugar Bush Brown.
Another option for a change of pace on the brewery tour is to visit Dixon’s Distilled Spirits which produces award winning Vodka, Gin and Whisky. A tour includes how the spirits are made along with samples of each.
